About
Our gallery opened its doors in October 2007 in the heart of Saint-Germain des Prés, the heart of artistic and cultural life for decades. Prestigious galleries have contributed to this deserved reputation.
The gimpel & müller gallery was born from a meeting at the Sartre conference in Cerisy la Salle in 2005, for the writer’s centenary. René Gimpel, director of the Gimpel Fils Gallery in London – whose grandfather, René Gimpel, was an important collector and gallerist in Paris until 1939 – and Berthold Müller, director of Galerie 17 in Salies de Béarn, decided to join forces to promote artistic exchanges between France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
Our gallery essentially presents and defends post-war abstract painting, a period of major proliferation and creation in Paris.
Three trends are favored: geometric abstraction, lyrical abstraction and kineticism.
This virtual showcase will allow you to discover our past, present and future exhibitions as well as the different events that we organize: conferences, discussions, readings, book signings, etc. You will also find a lot of information on our artists and their works.
